Jaroslovsky to Speak at Annual College Newspaper
Awards Luncheon on April 10

Jaroslovsky, a Bloomberg News executive and nationally
recognized expert in online journalism, will be the keynote
speaker at the New Jersey Press Foundation's annual awards
luncheon for the state's college newspapers.
As many as 100 students and their faculty advisers are expected
to attend the luncheon on April 10 at the Trenton Marriott. To

Jaroslovsky, who lives in Short Hills, N.J., founded and was
elected the first president of the Online News Association, an
organization of journalists dedicated to promoting excellence in
digital journalism.
He is Executive Editor, Government and Economy, at Bloomberg
News in New York City.
Prior to joining Bloomberg, he held a variety of positions at
The Wall Street Journal and its parent, Dow Jones & Co. In 1994
he helped create and launch The Wall Street Journal Online (wsj.com)
and became its first managing editor.
He has taught courses on the Internet and online news at Duke
University's Sanford Institute of Public Policy and at the
Columbia School of Journalism.
Following Jaroslovsky's talk, NJPF will present awards to the
college newspapers and their staffs that entered the 2007 Better
College Newspaper Contest.
The Better College Newspaper Awards attracted 261 entries from
16 colleges. Entries were received in the following categories:
- News Writing
- Feature Writing
- Opinion Writing
- Sports Writing
- Arts and Entertainment Writing
- Investigative/Enterprise Reporting
- Photography
- Layout and Design
- General Excellence (total newspaper)
In addition to those awards, NJPF will present Sweepstakes
trophies to the two-year and four-year college newspapers that
accumulate the most points in the contest.
Editors and former editors of New Jersey newspapers are
evaluating the entries and will select the contest winners in
mid-March. Award recipients will be announced on the home page
of this Web site.
Registration information will be mailed to college
newspapers in March.
